My functional ceramic works emerge from explorations of identity, function, form, and atmospheric firing methods. My practice centers on intentional care for process: how labor and energy become embedded in an object, and how those qualities shape a piece’s relationship to use.
Handcrafted functional pottery serves as my artistic catalyst, fostering a unique interaction between user, art, and artist. My forms—pitchers, stemware, baking dishes, and plates—are designed for social settings where connection and conversation flourish. Through these pieces, I aim to celebrate and highlight meaningful messages, while also contributing to conversations about identity, reconnection to the earth, art, community, and presence.
My work reconnects me with my Diné heritage through a textured surface design created with cedar, transferred fragments of traditional language, and colors inspired by the desert landscape. These combined evoke feelings of endearment and security, reminiscent of the spiritual and meditative connections that my family has taught me.
